WIS Hosts Top Baller x Bundesliga x Red Bull 1v1 Soccer Qualifier

From Chase Bruggeman, Director of Athletics: The Top Baller x Bundesliga x Red Bull 1v1 Soccer Event, hosted at WIS on April 18, proved to be an outstanding experience for our School and the broader community. The event welcomed U14–U16 players from across the DMV, creating a vibrant and highly competitive atmosphere. The level of talent, creativity, and intensity on display was exceptional, and the sense of camaraderie was evident throughout.

Event hosts Manuel and Armani from Top Baller expertly guided the competition while fostering an environment that was both energetic and supportive. Their passion and ability to encourage, instruct, and connect with players ensured that each participant felt valued, confident, and safe — even in a high-pressure setting. 

The tournament also provided meaningful exposure opportunities, with scouts from RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich identifying three local players for further evaluation. These athletes were invited to continue the process at the next TopBaller event in New York, along with all-expenses-paid training opportunities in Germany with their respective academies.

WIS was proudly represented by five student-athletes, with Will Upton '29 advancing to the quarterfinals. WIS Varsity All-State goalkeeper Connor Walitsky-Oliver '29 also competed throughout the event. It was especially encouraging to see some of our future ballers from Primary School, further highlighting the unity and enthusiasm within our community.

The event was a memorable milestone for WIS Athletics. We are proud to have partnered with globally recognized organizations such as Top Baller and the Bundesliga to bring such a unique and impactful experience to our campus.
